Dagelijkse Kost - Picky

Picky is a startup that developed an app to simplify meal planning for the week. The app provides clear recipes and allows users to add their own recipes for a more personalized experience.
Dagelijkse Kost, a well-known cooking brand, was looking for a new partner to develop their app. Picky became that partner, and in a significant turn of events, VRT (the owner of Dagelijkse Kost) became a shareholder in Picky. However, Picky remains an independent entity.]

Challenges in a Startup Environment
As a startup, Picky faces the common challenge of balancing feature requests with maintenance while ensuring high-quality output. Speed is essential, but so is stability and user satisfaction.
One major issue encountered was with the shopping list feature. Occasionally, items would disappear from the list due to how caching was implemented. A global cache was used, and when it reached capacity, it would remove the oldest item. This was problematic since users needed their shopping lists to remain intact. impaktfull analyzed the best approach to resolve this and implemented a custom cache system specifically for shopping lists and related recipes. This solution ensures that users can always access their lists, even offline in a store.
The app is built with Flutter, which aligns perfectly with impaktfull expertise. Flutter is our go-to technology for cross-platform development, ensuring a seamless and high-quality user experience.

Enhancing Dagelijkse Kost’s Website
Beyond the mobile app, Picky is also leading the effort to modernize the Dagelijkse Kost website. SEO is crucial for recipe-based platforms, and Google relies on structured data for indexing. Given that Flutter lacks SEO support and uses canvas rendering, it was not the right choice for this project. Instead, Next.js was chosen to ensure optimal performance and SEO support.
A centralized backend enables a consistent implementation across both Next.js and Flutter, simplifying development and maintenance. impaktfull assisted Picky in finalizing the web app, working for several weeks on bug fixes and new features essential for the Minimum Viable Product (MVP).
A Successful Collaboration
After one of Picky’s team members returned from parental leave, the company reassessed its needs and decided they could continue development in-house without additional external support for the time being.
impaktfull’s philosophy is to provide full-service support, not just Flutter or Next.js expertise, but exactly what clients need at any given moment. Right now, Picky does not require active development assistance. However, with a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 9/10, we are confident that this partnership will continue, and impaktfull will be ready to support Picky again whenever needed.
